Who we are
A financial planning firm built for you
Clear, thoughtful advice. A long-term partnership. A plan that gives you confidence and control over your future.
Putting people first
At BetterLife, everything starts with understanding what truly matters to you, not just your money, but your life. I genuinely enjoy working with people, building strong long-term relationships, and helping clients think beyond the numbers. Great financial planning isn’t about spreadsheets or investments. It’s about using wealth as a tool to create freedom, security, and options.
I work with a select group of clients because meaningful financial planning takes time. It takes understanding what really matters to you, what you want from life, and what keeps you up at night. And it takes expertise, the ability to cut through the noise, focus on the details, and give you a clear path forward so you never have to second-guess your financial future.
Why I founded BetterLife
BetterLife was born from a desire to create something truly personal, where financial planning is a partnership, not a process. I wanted to build a company where advice is clear, honest, and thoughtful, and where clients feel confident that every detail is being taken care of.
Built on One Simple Principle: Doing What’s Right
BetterLife is built on one guiding principle: always doing what’s right. That means giving the best advice, not just the most convenient. It means prioritising clarity over complexity, planning over products, and people over portfolios. Financial planning should empower you to live a better life, without second-guessing whether your money is working as hard as it should.
Behind BetterLife is a financial planner who believes in doing things differently. Someone who has built a career around helping people take control of their future.
Financial Planning, the Right Way
With expert advice and a clear roadmap, I help my clients take control of their financial future, so they can focus on living life on their terms.
Meet Toby
Financial planning isn’t just about investments, tax, or retirement, it’s about clarity, confidence, and knowing someone’s got your back. That’s why I do this.
I started with numbers, studying accountancy in the ‘90s, but life led me elsewhere. At 25, I founded and ran a regional newspaper, growing it into the area’s leading publication over nearly 20 years. Running my own business taught me a lot - how to solve problems, do things properly, and take care of people. When I moved into financial planning, I knew I wanted more than just arranging products. I wanted to help people take control of their future.
I’m now a Chartered Financial Planner, a status that combines deep technical knowledge and practical experience to make a real difference for clients. But it’s not just about the qualifications, it’s about having real conversations and making sure every decision is the right one for you.
Throughout my career, I’ve been lucky to work with some of the best in the industry, including four years spent alongside Pete Matthew, whose Meaningful Money podcast has helped hundreds of thousands take control of their finances. Working with Pete shaped the way I approach financial planning, clear, practical, and genuinely useful.
Starting BetterLife was about creating something on my own terms, working with people I can truly help, building strong relationships, and doing things the right way. I choose my clients based on whether we’re a good fit, not their wealth. This is about long-term partnership, and we both need to enjoy working together.
I work with a diverse range of clients, from professionals, tradespeople, and business owners to high earners and CEOs of household brands. Some have serious wealth, but what matters most is understanding what’s important to them, what keeps them up at night, and what brings them peace of mind.
My friends and family know I’m passionate about what I do. When I commit to something, I’m all in. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.
These principles shape everything I do.
Outside of work, I’m a competitive sports person who loves hitting the gym, spending time with my patient partner and large family, or walking Arnie, my soppy Golden Retriever, around our beautiful Cornish town and along the stunning coastal paths. I average ten miles a day, walking’s great for the soul and a perfect way to unplug.
I’m always learning—reading, listening, and digging into the details, so I can stay ahead and help my clients move forward with confidence.
If you want a financial planner who sees this as more than a job, who treats it as a real purpose—let’s talk.
